After a nation-wide search, the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council (HREDC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Brittany Weldy as Entrepreneurship Specialist. Brittany brings a wealth of knowledge in varying sectors to the unique position. Her most recent position was as a Finance Manager at Turning Point Recovery Centers in Hannibal, MO. Brittany begins work with HREDC on January 21, 2019.

“We had a deep applicant pool. Throughout the screening process, Brittany distinguished herself as a quality applicant,” said Corey Mehaffy, Executive Director of HREDC. “I have wanted to deliver SBDC services from our office since arriving at HREDC in January of 2019, and Brittany is a great person to fill that role. For the successful applicant, we were looking for experience in private sector, small business, and teaching roles. Brittany accomplished all of those for us, and our Board of Directors and staff are happy to have her join the team.”

The position is primarily funded with a grant from the University of Missouri Extension, funded in part through the U.S. Small Business Administration, to support Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) in Missouri. HREDC will provide SBDC services to a six-county region, and Brittany will provide additional entrepreneurship services to the two county HREDC region. Brittany will transition into managing HREDC’s entrepreneurial network and lead the organization’s outreach to early and second stage companies.

Brittany Weldy shared HREDC’s enthusiasm for the position. “I’ve assisted numerous entrepreneurs and business owners with their business ventures in the past,” she said. “I want to help others achieve their goals, and in the process, teach them more about what it takes to be successful in business. I look forward to contributing to the continued success of HREDC and local entrepreneurs.”

Brittany will begin by completing training with SBDC, meeting with stakeholders in the six-county SBDC service territory and learning more about the HREDC region. HREDC thanks Greg Tucker and David Steffes of SBDC for their partnership throughout the hiring process.

HREDC works to promote financial investment in Hannibal, Palmyra and Marion and Ralls Counties.  For more information on the organization, please visit their website at www.hredc.com.
