Hannibal, MO. – Corey Mehaffy, Executive Director of the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council (HREDC) announced today that Horizon Rentals has agreed to purchase the former Best Way Inn property located 612 Mark Twain Avenue in Hannibal. Horizon Rentals representative Jeff Hampton indicates that work will begin on the first phase of the project immediately after closing. The Hannibal City Council approved the sale of the property during their regularly scheduled meeting on November 16, 2021.
Mehaffy indicated that the initial phase of the project will include renovating the front building into twelve suites for extended stay offerings. Mehaffy added, “There continues to be a need in the community for extended stay rooms to support our area employers. As an example, we have a number of traveling healthcare workers that need accommodations for months at a time.”
According to Hampton, the twelve extended stay suites in the front building will be available in 2022. Hampton added, “Phase two will include either eight mid-sized or possibly four larger themed rooms in the second building while phase three will include eight studio rooms in the back building.” Hampton indicated that reservations will be online only at http://www.lighthousehannibal.com/.
City Manager Lisa Peck said, “The City is very pleased to have see this sizeable investment on Mark Twain Avenue and to see the buildings going back into service.”
Mehaffy said that this investment will be helpful in triggering additional investment on the avenue. “We are hopeful that this investment, coupled with the proposed Community Improvement District, will lead to additional investment on this corridor”, said Mehaffy.
