The Marion Ralls Regional Port Authority and Niemann Foods, Inc. (NFI) are pleased to announce that the first major tenant at the West Quincy Port Authority site will be a Haymakers Convenience Store.
Rich Niemann III stated that NFI plans to build a 7,000 sq. ft. Haymakers store, complete with a state-of-the-art fueling station. The new facility will allow for expanded fresh food offerings and will feature modern, exceptionally clean restrooms. Construction is set to begin in 2026, with a planned opening in early 2027.
NFI is an employee-owned company based in Quincy, IL. Founded in 1917, the company provides employment for nearly 6,000 people. NFI operates in seven states, with over 140 stores across various retail banners, including Haymakers, Ace Hardware, Niemann’s Supermarkets, Harvest Markets, Pet Supplies Plus, and County Markets.
The Marion Ralls Regional Port Authority (MRRPA) was established by the Marion and Ralls County Commissioners and approved by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission in 2020. In 2022, MRRPA purchased acreage in West Quincy and has since invested in planning, development, and infrastructure improvements to support multi-modal development opportunities at the site.
Besides the new tenant, MRRPA has over 300 acres available for industrial and multi-modal development. The site is located directly off four-lane US Highway 24, situated directly east of a BNSF rail line and directly west of a 100-year levee. As a recognized public port authority by the state of Missouri, MRRPA has been utilizing state grant match funds to develop infrastructure at the site and has plans to develop docking for river barge loading and unloading. The site is also positioned well for the development of a BNSF rail spur into the site, so future tenants could access highway, river, and rail all at one location.
Maria Kuhns, Executive Director of MRRPA and HREDC, shared her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are excited to work with NFI as our first tenant at the West Quincy port site. Haymakers will be a great first addition to the site and will open the door for further development. We feel that their concept will complement multi-modal developments in the future. Haymakers will serve as the front door to the site, providing services for those utilizing the port and setting the stage for additional investment and growth.” MRRPA administration is housed within the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council.
