Hannibal, MO. – Corey Mehaffy, Executive Director of the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council (HREDC) announced today that HREDC received confirmation from the Missouri Department of Economic Development that the Missouri Certified Sites Technical Review Team has approved the recertification of the Hannibal Lakeside Technology Park.
According to Jennifer Kingsbury, Program Administrator for the Missouri Certified Sites Program, the Hannibal Lakeside Technology Park is a solid economic asset to the Hannibal area and is well-placed in the state’s 34 very best land sites certified in the MCS Program. Kingsbury added that the Technical Review Team has firm confidence that the hard work of HREDC, HBPW and the City of Hannibal will prove valuable in helping to bring development activity to the site.
HREDC Executive Director Corey Mehaffy added, “On behalf of the HREDC Board of Directors and staff, I am excited to announce the recertification. Site consultants tell us that a certified or ‘shovel ready’ site helps to mitigate a prospect’s risk and can expedite the site selection process by up to 180 days.” According to Mehaffy, the certified property is considered ‘shovel ready’ with the necessary infrastructure for development including access roads and onsite utilities as well as completed geo-technical reports and environmental reviews. Mehaffy added, “This process greatly reduces the amount of time needed for a company to begin constructing a new facility.”
Mehaffy added that the site has been submitted on a number of projects over the last few months and is receiving a great deal of interest. Hannibal offers significant transportation infrastructure by road, rail, river and air. The site’s proximity to major highways, 4-lane US Highway 61 and Interstate 72, provides employers access to most major US markets within a one-day drive. In addition, the Hannibal Regional Airport accommodates executive jet travel and is located in close proximity to the site.
