WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) announced that he has secured funding for the downtown Hannibal stormwater project slated to take place from North Street to Mark Twain Avenue. The $3.5 million was included by Graves in the appropriations bill signed into law last month. It was initially authorized in the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2022, which was signed into law in December 2022.
“I’m thrilled to secure this funding for Hannibal,” Graves said. “During the Flood of 2019, part of Hannibal’s stormwater system collapsed, threatening downtown Hannibal. The Corps of Engineers fixed part of the damages near the levee, but there is still more work to be done. As a continuation of those repairs, this funding will take the project even further than originally planned. This project is a great example what we can accomplish through the Water Resources Development Act.”
Hannibal Mayor Barry Louderman stated, “This demonstrates how well the City and Federal Government can work together to remedy local problems, and we are extremely grateful to Congressman Graves for securing this funding for Hannibal.”
