Hannibal, MO. – Corey Mehaffy, Executive Director of the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council (HREDC) announced today that the HREDC is excited to welcome Dalton Goewey, a recent Truman State University graduate, as a part-time intern for the summer of 2021. Dalton will assist the HREDC staff with economic development initiatives in the Region.
Dalton just finished his senior year at Truman State graduating with a Bachelor of Science in economics. Dalton officially began his internship at HREDC on June 14 and will be working through the summer. While providing an excellent learning experience for Dalton, bringing on a summer intern will increase the productivity and efficiency within the HREDC office.
“I am excited to see what the field of economic development has to offer, but more importantly what I can offer from my position” Goewey said regarding the internship. “Economic development is a vital aspect of a healthy, happy, and productive community. It is great that a resource like HREDC is available, and I hope to acquire skills that allow me to assist in the effective application of this resource.”
HREDC Executive Director Corey Mehaffy added, “Through this internship we are looking to expose Dalton to as many of the operations of our HREDC stakeholders as possible, including the City of Hannibal, Hannibal Board of Public Works, and the Chamber of Commerce just to name a few.” Mehaffy also added “We’re very excited to have Dalton join the HREDC team this summer. Dalton came highly recommended by our former intern Ethan Schneider and he has hit the ground running.”
Mehaffy added, “We look forward to getting Dalton involved in our Small Business Development Center (SBDC) working with Maria Kuhns to support small businesses in the 7-county service territory. Through SBDC, Dalton will be able to experience small business across the spectrum from the idea stage to succession planning and everything in between. I think this will be a tremendous experience for him as he works to identify his future plans.”
