Hannibal, MO. – Corey Mehaffy, Executive Director of the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council (HREDC) announced today that the HREDC is excited to welcome back Ethan Schneider, a student at Truman State University, as a part-time intern for the summer of 2020. Ethan will assist the HREDC staff with economic development initiatives in the Region.
Ethan just finished his junior year at Truman and is pursuing Bachelor of science in economics with a minor in political science. Ethan officially begins his internship at HREDC on June 1 and will be working until he returns to school. While providing an excellent learning experience for Ethan, bringing on an intern will increase the productivity and efficiency within the HREDC office.
“I see this as a wonderful opportunity to both develop my professional skills and the community around me” Schneider said regarding the internship. “Economic development is such a key factor to any community of people, and the ability to change it for the better is a wonderful feeling to have”
HREDC Executive Director Corey Mehaffy added, “Through this internship we are looking to expose Ethan to as many of the operations of our HREDC stakeholders as possible, including the City of Hannibal, Hannibal Board of Public Works, and the Chamber of Commerce just to name a few.” Mehaffy also added “We’re very excited to have Ethan return to HREDC this summer. Ethan did an excellent job during his internship in 2019 and he was well received by the HREDC stakeholders and community partners.”
Mehaffy indicated that HREDC has grown considerably since Schneider’s 2019 internship. Mehaffy added, “We look forward to getting Ethan involved in our Small Business Development Center (SBDC) working with Brittany Weldy. Through SBDC, Ethan will be able to experience small business across the spectrum from the idea stage to succession planning and everything in between. I think this will be a tremendous experience for him as he works to identify his future plans.”
